BRIDGEWATER, THE GOLF CLUB AT
LAKELAND, FL
Ranked #18 by Golfweek's Best Courses To Play in Florida 2008, this exciting links-style course called for all of architect Steve Smyers' years of skill and ability in course design. The goal: to build a challenging test of golf, a pleasurable experience for all skill levels, a stern challenge for long hitters. As a reclaimed phosphate mine with stands of native oaks, the original terrain was flat. The topography now features undulating fairways (six connected by winding bridges) and multi-tiered tees and greens, many surrounded by well-placed bunkers. The flow of the land around the greens was carried onto the putting surfaces, resulting in slopes, ridges, and numerous potential hole locations. BridgeWater requires 'strategy' to play skillfully and rewards classic shotmaking with an extra risk/reward approach. Lakeland off I-4 between Kissimmee and Tampa.

Golfer Comments
03/15/2010 - Difficult course with minimal course mapping or GPS. We played it on a very windy and cold day. Posted by Dan (Quincy, MA)
03/15/2010 - Course is difficult for recreational golfer. We were all single digit handicaps and struggled. Posted by Jim (Chelmsford, MA)
03/01/2010 - This course is still fairly young and there are so many quality courses to choose from that I will play other places before going back here. In time I think it will be a good course. Posted by Tom (North East, PA)
05/27/2009 - I CAN'T REALLY REMEMBER ALL OF THESE DETAILS FOR ALL COURSES SO THIS IS THE ONLY ONE I AM GOING TO RATE. HOWEVER, WE ALL FELT THAT WE WOULD AGAIN PLAY THE THREE COURSES THAT WERE NEW TO US THIS YEAR. THOSE BEING: BRIDGEWATER, CELEBRATION, AND WINDERMERE. Posted by Jim (Rochester, NY)
03/30/2009 - The bunkers were amazing!! There were so many of them, if I hadn't been able to hit out of them before, I would surely have acquired the skill but the end of the game. A very interesting course. Posted by Marilyn (Kirkland, QC)
03/30/2009 - Better courses out there, though this course was the lowest surcharge one we played so you should expect it not to be as good as the ones you pay more for Posted by John (Warren, RI)
03/09/2009 - I thought the course was not the best for many golfers who were just starting to play since the previous season ended in Sep/Oct of the previous year. I found the bunkers too severe. Posted by Irma (Detroit, MI)
03/06/2009 - A good new course. Understandabe pride by all staff, and particularly the starter, in stating the level of challenge of the course led our party to play off the forward tees. What a mistake, the course then became a pussy cat and detracted from our pleasure. The course is challenging and visitors should be encouraged to take it on. Posted by Phil (Neston, )
02/09/2009 - Tuff Green's to hold No Flop shot's, No Bump & Run Nice Layout. Got rained on But Finished the round. Course Brought Me to my Knee's that day. Maybe Next Time... Posted by James (Westland, MI)
01/26/2009 - There is too much area designated as environmentally sensitive that prohibits entry much less play when the ball can be seen and playable. Staff blamed the state for this issue. A better solution is needed. Posted by Bruce (Luck, WI)
