About World Woods Golf Club - Pine Barrens (Brooksville, FL)
Intimidating. Enjoyable. These two words don't often go hand in hand, but they accurately describe the Pine Barrens course at World Woods. Ranked #26 on Golfweek's list of "America's Best Modern Courses for 2006," this Tom Fazio design has been receiving accolades since it opened in 1991. It's perennially ranked among the nation's top courses by Golf Digest and has been called "Florida's Pine Valley." The course features large fairways framed by expansive waste bunkers and towering pines (hence the comparisons to Pine Valley).

Great track! of the two (played both Pine Barren and Rolling Oak) I'd give this one the edge. Loved the design and the hazard/waste area/bunkering. Was tough as nails, but fair. Played the green tees and I wouldn't play it any shorter though. Played like crap and still enjoyed myself. I guess that tells you something.

Pine Barrens is one of the most glorious courses I have ever played. It presents constant but fair challenges, and rewards good play. On Sunday I finally got on number 12 in two, after 12 years of trying. Played it at around 450 yards, so for a 66 year old I consider this an accomplishment. Followed that up with birdies at 14 and 15 for a very satisfying round.

Yes, great track with LOTS of sand challenges, but I'd love to play it in hard summer conditions when I'm sure you get 40 yds of role...and faster greens. Wonderful course, just too bad it's in the middle of nowhere.
